Training Vs. Trying

Every week I try to find some sort of life event or world event to write about. This week I dove into my own past to search for a time I trained for something……. I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I literally couldn’t think of a time that I actually trained for any athletic event. Where I grew up they have the annual Cooper River Bridge Run 10k where 40,000 people participate. Once, I thought about training to run it. Never did. That’s not to say I don’t keep active, because I do. I’ve just never trained for an athletic event.

Except for this one time. When the Nintendo Wii was brand new I organized a video game competition for my student ministry. One of the games being played was Wii Bowling. I knew I could kill in that particular event, so I trained. I trained hard. Harder than anyone could believe one could train for fake bowling. I got so good I could bowl a perfect 300 every round without even cheating. When the competition came around I had bowled so much I blew out my right arm. Seriously. I bombed hard and came in last place. It was sad.

I obviously know very little about training, but I’m excited that my friend Tracy Turner knows a lot about training. Tracy is the pastor at Trinity Point in Easley, SC. Tracy and his wife celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in June. He has six kids, one beautiful grandchild, 2 dogs (Rose a Chocolate Lab and Dash a Heinz 57 Dog).

Tomorrow we’ll take a break from Mark as Tracy trains us through Titus 2:11-14. I look forward to worshiping with you tomorrow! Also, don’t forget tomorrow is our first Sunday mixer. You’re invited to come eat with us after service. It’s a great place to meet new people, make a friend, and find a family.

Join us for worship tomorrow!
