Can You Be Good Without God?

Nothing will induce existential dread like pondering the heat death of the universe. So, watch this video from Kurzgesagt.

Redemption for the atheist is annihilation. It’s in this annihilation that "…humiliation you suffer in your life will be forgotten. Every mistake you made will not matter in the end. Every bad thing you did will be voided. If our life is all we get to experience, then it's the only thing that matters. If the universe has no principles, the only principles relevant are the ones we decide on. If the universe has no purpose, then we get to dictate what its purpose is."

I want you to think about how scary that is. The logical outcome of atheism is that nothing you do ultimately matters. You can help starving children in a hurting country, it doesn’t really matter. You can murder hundreds. It doesn’t really matter. One day the heat death of the universe will smooth out all your rights and wrongs. The only principle that truly matters is your happiness. So, you do you. Because this is the only life you have. As Richard Dawkins said about a world without God, “ [there is] no evil, and no good. Nothing but blind pitiless indifference."

I hope that made you cringe a little. Because, no matter what people may say, we seem to all have a sense that there really are some real good things and some real evil things. Morality seems to be objective. So, tomorrow we’re going to ask the question, “Can you be good without God?” I’d love for you to join us in this fascinating discussion.
