Darkness and Waiting

On the seventh day God had completed his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.
Genesis 2:2

On Friday Jesus was crucified. Before sundown down he was placed in Joseph of Arimathea’s tomb. Night fell and the Sabbath started. The work of Christ had been done on Friday. Now that it was Saturday he rested in the tomb. By rested, I don’t mean that he was sleeping. No, every ounce of life was gone. There was no movement. The stone sat against the doorway and not a sliver of light shown in. He was dead, it was dark. Waiting.

Jesus died on Friday, rested on Saturday, but Sunday was coming.

Tomorrow we’re having a party! Jesus has risen from the dead and the implications for you and me are immeasurable. The resurrection of Jesus is the most important single event in our faith. Without it, we have nothing. With it, we have everything.

Join us for worship this Sunday in Jamaica Plain as we celebrate the Risen Lord through prayer, song, deed, and word. Invite your friends along to the party! Who’s your plus one?

Finally, don’t forget to dress up for the photo booth! We’ll have a professional photographer there to get free pics of you in your Easter best.

Join us for worship tomorrow!
