My Own Worst Enemy

I'm back at it with my super relevant song tie-ins. This week I'm going to the, often confused with Blink-182, recently turned country, pop-punk band Lit. I couldn't be more cutting edge, right? I think I've discovered a new type of dadism. You have dad jokes, dad reflexes, and now dad song references.

Back in 1999 Lit released, "My Own Worst Enemy." A song which I thought had one of the hottest guitar riffs ever. My friends and I played it on repeat. I had no idea what the song was about, but would yell, with as much punk attitude as possible, the lyric, "I'm sleeping with my clothes on!"

Turns out, the song is about a guy who constantly sabotages himself. He ruines his relationships with girls, parents, friends, and gets in trouble with the cops because he has no self-control. He falls to temptation at every turn. The title line is, "It's no surprise to me I am my own worst enemy."

Have you ever felt that way? Like no matter what you do, you're your own worst enemy? There are times when the temptation to do what we know we shouldn't do gets the best of us. We give in and we find ourselves a slave to our desires. Those times are often expressed as Too much drink. Too much smoke. Too much sex. Too much spending. Too much, too much, too much. We all face it. You're not alone.

This week James addresses temptation's cause, end, and how we can have victory over it. I hope that Sunday's message is encouraging and challenging to you in this fight to become more like Christ every single day.

And don't worry, there will be more super relevant song references in the future. I just can't help myself... I guess you could say, I succumb to the temptation every time. 🔥 (Two dadisms in one post... next level).

In Christ,

Community groups are the best way to get involved and build friendships is in a CG. Starting today we’ll have a new Sunday CG at 1:30pm! Email for more info.

We now have church t-shirts available! You can get one by donating $8 (Our cost) when the offerings baskets are passed. You can then pick up your t-shirt at the Connect and Serve kiosk by the front door.

CG's are great, but sometimes it's hard to break in. During the summer we're having some special Community Group events where you can come hang out, get to know people, and have some fun. The first of these is CG Game night.
